ABOUT CHRIS

Chris Griese, WSET III Sake

Eastern USA Sales Manager Sake Story

About sake, Griese says, “Who knew it could be so amazing?” After discovering the incredible quality and diversity of artisan sake in 2006, he launched a personal “sake crusade” across the State of Minnesota, believing that enlightened wine drinkers should discover the beauty of sake. Chris received an Advanced Sake Professional II certification in Tokyo two weeks prior to the tragic Fukushima earthquake and tsunami; he was tapped by the London based Wine & Spirits Educators Trust to become one of the first Level III Sake Educators in the US.

Chris has made multiple trips to Japan to maintain brewery relationships and continue his sake studies. During the past two winters Chris has brewed sake at Minnesota’s own Moto-I Brewery, where he learned in detail the intricacies and challenges of the brewing process. In 2018, Griese joined Sake Story Imports as Eastern US Sales Manager, a position that enables him to carry the “Jizake” message well beyond Minnesota.

Griese admits that his sake-centric world-view may be an anomaly but insists that one taste of a hand-made Junmai-shu paired with local ramen or a Primanti's sandwich…is a guaranteed epiphany.
